This card came about as a result of experimenting with water and Distress Inks. I watched a video on stamping with water over on Jennifer McGuire's blog and wanted to try it out. I sponged a piece of white cardstock with Blueprint Sketch ink and followed her instructions to add my image. Well....let's just say that the image I chose did NOT work well with this technique. Next time I'll use a different stamp. lol So, in the interest of saving the messed-up piece, I went in a different direction.
I laid the Raindrops stencil by My Favorite Things over the inked cardstock and spritzed water through it. I love the resulting fuzzy raindrops! I cut a circle from white cardstock with a Circle STAX Set 2 die and added some patterned green paper from the Print Poetry paper stack by Stampin' Up. I cut an additional piece using the Fresh Cut Grass die and glued it just underneath the edge. What's cool is, you can't really tell until you look closely! The whole circle piece is glued on the inked cardstock directly over the messed up part so you would never know unless I told you. Love that!
The darling little girl image is from Sunny Thoughts, one of the Pure Innocence stamps by My Favorite Things. First time she's been inked! I did a lot of paper piecing, using patterned paper from the Print Poetry stack and the Brights Collection Patterns Stack, along with a bit of black cardstock for the umbrella handle. I colored her face, hands, hair, and pants with Copic markers. Her hands are curved around the handle, which adds some dimension. It looks cool in person!
I cut one of the tiny flowers from the Print Poetry paper to add to my grass. For the cloud, I used the Flat-Bottom Clouds die by My Favorite Things and another patterned paper from that same stack. I love the handwritten ledger look. Everything was adhered to a white card base.
I selectively stamped the sentiment onto two white strips, using the Building Blocks die by Papertrey Ink, and added it to the bottom of the card. The remaining portion of the sentiment, which is from Feel the Sun by Verve Stamps, is stamped inside the card. I added a narrow strip of the yellow polka dot paper to add a bit of sunshiny color.
I love how this card turned out! Even better, my teenage son said it was really good when he saw it by the computer. I love spontaneous praise! :D
